Delicious Cakes With A Greener Footprint…
Local, Eco Friendly Cakes in Bristol!
I absolutely love making cakes and the joy it brings to other people. There is no doubt about that, but we have reached a critical time in our lives where the effects of climate change are having catastrophic effects. While this may be the case, not all hope is lost yet and every single person can make a difference by making small changes. Here are some of the small changes, that I am making, to embrace the green.
If I can source an ingredient locally without effecting the quality of my bakes, I’m on it. I buy majority of my cake ingredients from my local zero waste shop, right here in St George, including my oil, flour, oat milk and baking agents. This means lower Co2 emmissions and I am directly giving back to the local Bristol economy.
If I can’t source it locally, then I at the very least try to buy products, from companies that are activately contributing towards tackling climate change and champion sustainability as one of their core values. Where possible, I also ensure that the products I use are produced right here in the UK.
Sadly, the cake industry has so much single use plastic and products that end up in landfil. After witnessing this, that was when I decided there has to be a better way. This is when I came up with the goal of removing all unnecessary single use plastic from my business. While there are some instances where plastic is unavoidable (eg buying sugar paste), it does mean I no longer use any single use piping bags, gloves or cling film. All of the cakes boxes I use, are completely recycalable and I even use compostable cupcakes cases!
I am proud to say, that Serving Cake is now registered with More Trees. An organisation that was created to reverse deforestation, improve biodiversity and tackle extreme poverty even easier. For every single order I recieve, I will be funding the planting of a single tree in different reforestation sites across the world as well as right here in the UK. Make sure to follow me on my socials for updates on my progress.
Just imagine, indulging in a celebration cake, and knowing that you have directly contributed to the local enconomy, reducing CO2 emmissions and reversing deforestation… Well now you don’t have to!
1.Locally Sourced Ingredients.
2. Using Products That Champion Sustainabilty.
3. Keeping Single Use Plastic To An Absolute Minimum.
4.Funding The Planting Of More Trees.
“Had some delicious cup cakes today that was made by the lovely Jo! Absolutely can’t fault him - his cakes are unbelievable and you wouldn’t even tell they’re vegan!!! Will definitely use these cakes for any future events that I plan!”
“We had some of Jo’s beautiful tasting cupcakes for a family gathering. The colours were stunning, but tasted really lovely, fluffy and scrumptious.”
